How a technology assessment works

The purpose of your technology assessment is so we can discuss and understand your needs, then work with you to explore all of the suitable technology options. We’ll help to determine which options best meet your needs, and help you understand and access funding to obtain the equipment and training you need.
Whether you’re looking for technology for education, the workplace, to help you at home or when you’re out and about, an assessment is a great place to start and explore the options available.

Types of assessments

Perhaps you know which types of technology can help, but aren’t sure how to access them or the funding required. Or, you may want to explore the options to see what is available but may not be sure which types of technology could be best for you and what you want to do. Perhaps you need your work desk assessed for the best technology options for you.

No matter the situation, we can meet with you to talk through the options and show you what is available to help.

How funding can help

A range of funding options are available to people who are blind or have low vision to access products, technology and training that they may not be able to afford.

Frequently asked questions

That depends on funding available for your individual situation and the type of assessment you need. Give us a call and we’ll be able to advise you.

An assessment starts with a conversation with one of our Access Technology Specialists, who will ask a number of questions to understand your needs, your goals, the technology you currently have and how confident you are with technology.

They will then trial and talk through a range of different options to work out which ones you like and which best suit your needs. From there, we can provide a formal report if needed. If you’re purchasing the equipment yourself, we can assist you with that, too. We’ll also consider the training you may need in order to help you get the most from your new technology.

Not at all. Vision Australia can provide training to get you up and running with technology. Our training programs are personalised, so we can make them as simple or as advanced as you need. There’s also a range of podcasts and beginner guides available through our website which will help you to get started.
